ARC uncovers Autumn comedy grapevine

With Liverpudlian John Bishop selling out before the summer brochure even landed, ARC is giving a heads up to comedy fans this autumn. With a line-up of fantastic newcomers alongside the well-established sell out artists, comedy devotees will not be disappointed!

Super-star comedians Sarah Millican and Rich Hall have confirmed second dates to accommodate the mass of comedy fans this autumn following the quick sell-out of their original dates.

Along with grouchy American Rich Hall with his two dates in September, ARC’s fortnightly comedy night Catch 22 will host two nights in September with Sam Wills: The Boy with Tape on his Face on Friday 10 September and Paul Sinha and Michael Thornton on Friday 24 September.

From the other side of the fence on the other side of the pond, Canadian cracker-jack Stewart Francis will dish out his crafty one-liners as he continues his Tour De Francis in October.

The remainder of October will see a welcome return of the wildly popular Beat the Gong at Catch 22, where audiences vote with your laughs for 12 wannabe comedians who each try to beat the gong by keeping audience judges amused for a full five minutes.

Out of the jungle and onto the stage Russell Kane, co host of ITV 2’s I’m a Celebrity get me Out of Here, NOW!, makes his ARC debut on Friday 22 October with his new stand up show Smokescreens and Castles, followed by a performance which is definitely not for the younger ears, Pete Firman with Jokes and Tricks on Thursday 28. Catch 22 rounds off a busy crammed October with Phil Nichol, Susan Murray and resident MC.

Fresh from his sell out solo tour of Australia and New Zealand and his third appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman, crooked man Tommy Tiernan is making a stop at ARC on Thursday 4 November, having embarked on his long awaited UK National tour.

As well as Catch 22 regular slot featuring in November Alex Boardman, no nonsense Alun Cochrane will be doing what he does best; specializing in funny nonsense on the Thursday 18. This not to be missed combination of storytelling and fantasy in an upbeat script is delivered by one of the best young comedians on the circuit.

Isy Suttie takes a break from her daft work colleagues as Dobby in Channel 4’s Peep Show to continue her solo stand up career with Love Lost in the British Retail Industry on Thursday 2 December. With sell-out Edinburgh runs to her name, her acclaimed debut shows have highlighted her talent as her comedy ricochets from stand-up, to superbly silly songs, to character pieces, leaving audiences hearts full of hope.

"Gloriously upbeat - a wonderfully whimsical musical comedian, an absurdist Victoria Wood." Evening Standard

“One of the most versatile comics in the UK.” The Scotsman

Catch 22 rounds off the autumn season and gets Stockton in the mood for festive frivolities with a Christmas special spanning Friday 10 & Saturday 11 December. With the innovative and original Markus Birdman, the brilliant Andy Fury, Channel 4 Comedy Lab’s Glen Wool and frequent sell-out Jason Cook as MC, it looks like Christmas is coming early.
