Bollywood and brass produce special blend of flavours

The Bollywood Brass Band is set to blow audiences away when Bollywood meets brass and Bhangra at ARC this month.

The 10+ ensemble currently tour the world delivering dazzling performances at weddings, world music and street music festivals, and cultural festivals such as Diwali, Milad, and Melas; and this month they are stopping by at Stockton.

The band’s funky drummers and a hot six piece horn section play massive hits from Indian films, driven by the huge beat of the dhol drum and accompanied by video projections of dance sequences from the original Bollywood films.

Having formed back in 1992 the Bollywood Brass Band has performed with the Shyam Brass Band from Jabalpur, India, at the International Festival of Street Music in London.

Since then they have created a unique London blend of Hindi film hits, Bhangra rhythms and brass arrangements, with influences from jazz, other world music, and the thriving UK dance remix scene. The repertoire includes classic and current film hits, Punjabi folk songs, tunes by the great qawwal Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and wedding songs.

Audiences can expect a beautifully fused mishmash of Punjabi flavours and locally available ingredients mixed with Anglo-Saxon ingenuity.
