Hello I once had reason to do the history of Dovecot Street and found that the small newsagent down the road from the Arc has been a newsagency since at least 1881 never changed from being a newsagency at all. I can't fully remember now as it's been some time since I researched this part but I 'think' it may have even gone as far back as 1841 ! Memory gets a bit vague but Stockton Library had the census' which could prove it. Although the address was in Mill Lane at the time, cos Dovecot street changed it's numbering in about 1906 extended down Mill Lane. I though it was interesting, the oldest shop of it's kind in Stockton WoW Wonder if the owners know !

The Autumn/Winter season is set to be one of ARC’s, Stockton Arts Centre, biggest as we confirm four huge acts that will be gracing the venue. Kate Rusby, 4 Poofs and a Piano, Ed Byrne and Jason Manford will be appearing at ARC in the Autumn. Tickets for all these events are available from ARC Box Office on 01642 525199.

Yes, we love singing, and we are sorry to have missed the first session of Silver Singers. We hope to join you next Wednesday afternoon but are doubtful about committing long-term because to a pensioner �3.00 is a lot of money. Evenings are generally ruled out because of poor bus service and costly taxi fares.

Hi, this is Neil Walker, Education & Arts Development Manager at ARC. You can come every week or dip in and out when it suits you. We wanted to start the activity during the day for people who may be retired and have time on their hands. It is another addition to our Silver range of activies. If there is enough interest then we may look to start a session on an evening in the future. And don't worry if you want to watch a Silver Screen film at 2pm. You can leave the singing early this week and in future weeks we may start half an hour earlier to prevent a clash. Thanks, Neil

From the Dark End of the Street to the Midnight Hour, Irish film The Commitments put Soul back on the map in the UK and Ireland. On Wednesday 23rd April, ARC’s brand new House Band will pay tribute to the band with Committed to The Commitments. And the line up of Tees Valley guest singers will be joined by local actor Daniel Casey of Midsomer Murders and Steel River Blues fame.

I came across these paintings when i was rehrsing my companies rendition of Macbeth in the theatre and i must say i relly apreciate how the medium the piece wwas created with gives it a very gritty feel to it and also how it in some ways jumps out of the frame into my face as i am tempted to look evr so closer to the superb texture. LOVE IT!

I'm a 59 year old lady and I would love to know more about the 'Silver Singers' with a view to joining the group. Although I'm not a particularly talented singer...I just love to sing!! Unfortunately, I am about to start a full-time job on Monday 4th February so will not be able to make the Wednesday afternoon meeting time! I am so disappointed about that and wondered if there was a weekend or evening meeting time also? Thanks for any information offered.

ARC and Cleveland CAMRA’s Beer Festival is well on its way to being another sell out success, and it’s still two weeks until it begins! However a slight spanner was thrown in the works when Friday nights act The Foundations pulled out of the performance due to double booking themselves. ARC have managed to find the perfect replacement in Rock and Roll/ R’n’B band Eddie and The Hot Rods.

The English staff at Redcar Community College were delighted with the performance of the Year 9 students in their Sats tests last year, The students gained a 20% increase in their highest grades,The work preparing them for the Shakespeare paper was so important as a compulsive element of the test we wanted the students to be fully aware of the Text and Scenes in Macbeth that were to be tested. We were�so proud of the increase in grades and are convinced the Theatre workshops and Actors workshops on the Key Scenes had a direct impact on our results.
