The Bluebird Blues featuring Diana Braithwaite and Chris Whiteley with Bob Hall. In the years between the great wars, Bluebird was the pre-eminent blues record label. Stars such as Big Bill Broonzy and Sonny Boy Williamson defined the Bluebird sound and helped pave the way for the pop revolution of the sixties. The award-winning duo of vocalist Diana Lee Braithwaite, whose African-American family originated in Florida, and Kansas-born Chris Whiteley, are steeped in blues history and have a particular interest in Bluebird. Chris learned guitar from Bluebird star Lonnie Johnson and was for many years the friend, confidante and accompanist to pianist Blind John Davis, who did as much as anyone to create the Bluebird sound. Together they are joined by Bob Hall, poll-winning British blues and boogie pianist, for a unique and varied evening’s entertainment, with great vocals, guitar, piano, mandolin, harmonica, trumpet and percussion, mixing the scintillating music of Bluebird records with stories of its larger-than-life stars. “Diana Braithwaite sings with fine assurance and beauty of tone” Daily Telegraph
