This section contains information on ARCADE, ARC's artist network, please click to find out more and for details on how to join ARCADE and ARCADE Student
ARCADE is a free membership scheme open to professional practitioners working in performance (primarily theatre, dance and spoken word) in the Tees Valley and surrounding area.
ARC works with artists and companies from across the North East to support the development of their work – but we can only help if we know who you are! Our performance artist network is designed to bring professional practitioners together, to network and collaborate, to share ideas and resources, and to support the creation of new work in the region.
Membership of ARCADE is free and offers you the following:
1. Complimentary tickets
On joining the scheme you will be issued with a membership card which can be shown at the Box Office to claim a complimentary ticket for any dance, theatre or spoken word performance here at ARC, subject to availability. We know how important it is for artists to see other work, and this is our way of helping you do that.
2. Professional development workshops
Membership of ARCADE will entitle you to take part in free professional development workshops led by companies and artists performing at ARC. We will also be encouraging you to share your skills across the network through special ARCADE Exchange sessions. Details of these opportunities will be sent out by email and you will be asked to sign up in advance.
3. Surgery sessions
As an ARCADE member, you will be able to book a one-hour surgery session with a member of ARC staff to discuss practical issues around your artistic practice. So if you need programming/touring, technical or marketing advice, please contact us and we will arrange a time.
4. ‘Scratch’ nights
We want to encourage artists to share their work with other professionals, so will be looking to mount regular ‘scratch’ nights for ARCADE members. Scratch nights will offer the opportunity to show up to 15 minutes of your work to other members, with informal feedback afterwards. Invitations to take part will be sent out by email with slots filled on a first come, first served basis. Please be supportive and come along even if you aren’t showing work - your feedback will be valuable.
5. Invitations to special events
ARCADE members will receive invitations to special events held at ARC, such as our seasonal VIP receptions and talks. As well as meeting other artists, we also want to help you meet funders, supporting organisations and other stakeholders. And we want to make you feel welcome at ARC, so please come along as often as you can.
6. Wider networking opportunities
ARC proactively works with regional agencies such as The Empty Space and Dance City, as well as coordinating the North East Venues network. We will pass on information we receive about opportunities across the region to all ARCADE members to ensure you stay in touch and don’t miss out.
Although membership of ARCADE is free, we are looking for you to make a commitment. In the first year of your membership, we would expect you to attend at least:
